An exclusive geographic market area defined by the Arbitron Company as a device to measure the market covered by a radio or television station and determined by which station receives the most viewing hours. The population within this area receives the same programming. Arbitron publishes the ADI for American media markets as a source for advertisers. As a market-measuring device, it is similar to designated market area (DMA) and standard metropolitan statistical area (SMSA), but it might not be the same in size or area.
